It was ‘700 when the art of gloves started to spread around Italy and found its full expression in Naples, more precisely in one of the most characteristic and historical quarter, the Sanità area. From then on, the making of gloves in Naples kept a significant place in the craft of leather gloves, succeeding in transferring the manufacturing mastery from generation to generation. Although time passing by, the beginning of new technologies, and customers changing their needs, there are realities that resisted proposing refined, luxury and unique products.
Portolano’s family, well-known name all over the world, is part of leather gloves history from four generations. Craftsmanship, know-how, style and attention to the details are keywords written in the dna of this Italian company, born in the 1895 thanks to the work of Fortunato Portolano. Fortunato is the first son of Alberto whom, thanks to his great entrepreneurial spirit, transformed a small workshop in a big and well organised production, taking care of all business cycle: from leather tannery to the handmade production of gloves.
At the end of the 70s, after the succession of the son Alberto to the father Fortunato, the company was named as Alpo Guanti. The name takes inspiration from Alberto Portolano’s initials.
Their know-how, the selection of materials, the qualified manufacturing made Alpo Guanti one of the best realities of the world.
